Cycling Safety
Do you know the rules of the road? To avoid becoming a statistic, follow these rules and be a "real biker"!
1. Always... yes... always wear a helmet. Cars are very unforgiving when they hit you. They won't mean to hit you, they just will. Remember, brains don't grow back!
2. Make sure your bike is in good working order before you ride.. check the brakes and the tires to make sure they are inflated. Check your chain to make sure it's not rusty.
3. Ride on the right side of the road... bikers should always ride in the same direction as a car travels. Do not ride against traffic. and yes, you can get a speeding ticket or pulled over for going through a red light.
4. Always try to obtain eye contact with drivers to confirm they DO see you, especially as some of them have a Starbucks in one hand,and their cell phone in the other. |
